Description: Binder\'s approach for United Air Lines is both straightforward and savvy: get people interested in specific destinations and they\'re almost guaranteed to board your aircraft. Here, it\'s fairly safe to assume that the \"Colorado\" that the artist is attempting to lure travelers to is the summer outdoors activities. As an additional subtle enticement and reminder of expediency, an unobtrusive United plane soars above the locale. Binder was born in Vienna and trained there and in Munich. After a term as professor at the Municipal Institute in Frankfurt, he returned to Vienna to teach at the Academy. On the eve of World War II, he joined the exodus of talented, politically incorrect Germans and Austrians to America where he became a leading designer of posters for the war effort. He also won acclaim for his historical paintings and portraits.
